During uncertain times, it's important to us that you feel supported. We have introduced flexible policies on course bookings at Bell so you can book with confidence and have the assurance of our commitment to your long-term growth and development - without the worry of paying last-minute change or cancellation fees.

Updated 4 March 2020

1. Visa late deposit payments
1.1 If a student is unable to arrange a visa appointment with an embassy because of closures or delays - due to the new coronavirus outbreak - we will accept a deferred deposit payment until the student is able to make a visa appointment with an embassy.
1.2 If a student has paid a deposit and is then unable to obtain a visa due to the new coronavirus related policy changes, we will refund the student the course deposit, less our standard booking registration fee.

2. Zero change bookings
2.1 For all individual adult 16+ bookings at Bell Cambridge or Bell London made from Wednesday 4 March to Tuesday 31 March 2020, students will be able to postpone or cancel their bookings up to a week before their course start date. In the case of postponement, we will retain the funds as credit for 24 months. In the case of cancellation, we will refund full fees with no questions asked.

3. Cancellations and deferrals
With the exception of clause 2.1,
3.1 If a student has paid the full course fee but is coming from a country where the government has subsequently banned travel or advises individuals not to travel at the time of their course start date - due to the new coronavirus outbreak - they may postpone their booking to a later date with no cancellation charges. We will retain the funds as credit for 24 months for any Bell courses, subject to Bell being informed at least two weeks before the course start date.
3.2 If a group booking has paid their deposit or full course fee, but is coming from a country where the government has subsequently banned travel or advises individuals or groups not to travel at the time of their course start date - due to the new coronavirus outbreak - they may postpone their booking to a later date. We will retain the funds as credit for 12 months, subject to Bell being informed at least two weeks before the course start date.
3.2 If a student has paid the full course fee but is outside a country where government bans travel due to the new coronavirus outbreak, or where there is no explicit travel advice for individuals not to travel, they can postpone or cancel their booking at any time, subject to our usual terms & conditions.

The aforementioned booking terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

I came to Buenos Aires with absolutely minimal Spanish but a whole load of enthusiasm for language learning and teaching. Having been in ELT since 1987, and having worked at Bell Cambridge since 1994, I had encountered quite a few Argentinian students and teachers over the years but never been there. I was delighted that the participants for the week-long Contemporary English course were so keen, inquisitive, supportive and ready to learn. We formed a strong bond over the week as we worked with new phrasal verbs, blends, clippings, eggcorns, non-standard grammar and phonology. What impressed me above all was how proficient in English these teachers were: they had wonderful fluency and accuracy and a wealth of knowledge of methodology, not to mention lots of different classroom experience to draw on. They were able to share practical ideas as to how they could adapt and use my material to be relevant for their own learners. It is clear that the level of initial teacher training in Argentina is enviably high.
As a first-time tourist, the wide avenues and grand building of Buenos Aires reminded me of Paris and I enjoyed looking upwards, to seek out Art Nouveau or Art Deco details. Ana Giner was a wonderful guide to the city and I would have been lost without her. She went out of her way to ensure my comfort and safety and that I was looked after. Thank you, Ana! There were great culinary experiences at some of BA’s renowned eateries (pizza, steak, ice cream, tea and cake); I tried alfajores, dulce de leche and ……. yerba mate (it’s not for me!).
Despite two final days of unbearably hot weather, I came away feeling refreshed and appreciated as a trainer. Many thanks to my contact Romina Arena (who started the ball rolling in 2018), Ana Giner, Sonia Ruseler, Maria Esther Paredes and Gabriela Lopez Lopez at AACI, the audiovisual technicians at AACI, my course participants, the teachers who came to my Saturday workshops and to everybody whose friendliness made my stay so comfortable. Quizas nos veremos de nuevo pronto!

TEACHING VALUES IN THE PRIMARY CLASSROOM.

EFL teachers, especially those who teach young learners, know instinctively that they are expected to teach not just English but, among other things, they’re expected to teach values. However, one must recognise the controversial nature of the subject of moral education and the sensitivities it may engender, especially among parents and educators who could perceive moral education as a form of indoctrination.

In this session, I will discuss what values need to be taught and present a range of ideas and materials that can be implemented at primary level.

CLIL AND PROJECT BASED LEARNING IN YOUR CLASSROOM

As CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) is becoming more and more widespread in the belief that students will significantly improve their foreign language proficiency while content learning is not negatively affected, it is important to take full advantage of the potentialities of the approach to improve the level of language proficiency in students. Implementation of CLIL prepares school students for studies at university on a qualitatively higher level, gives insight into ESP terminology, provides access to numerous information resources available on the Internet in English and allows both students and teachers to raise the quality of participation in international research projects.

In this session, I will briefly explore the principles behind CLIL, present ideas for CLIL- based projects for secondary school students and ideas for adaptations and further work.

SILVANA RICHARDSON

MAKING LEARNING VISIBLE FOR TEACHERS AND THEIR STUDENTS
One important area that has received increased attention recently is the need for teachers to ensure that what is being learnt and how well it is being learnt is clearly visible to both themselves and their students, as this information is fundamental to determining the direction of subsequent teaching and learning. This talk will explore the importance and the benefits of making learning visible and will present a range of practical strategies that teachers can be taught to get more and better evidence of learning that have been found to have very high effects on learning.

IMPACTFUL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR TEACHERS

Many well-meaning teacher development programmes are ineffective in achieving lasting and transferable teacher learning, as they seldom go beyond initial input. Thanks to the insights provided by large-scale international research studies we now know that Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programmes only lead to powerful and applicable learning outcomes for teachers and their students if they are designed in a certain way.

ANNIE ALTAMIRANO

VISUAL INPUT – CREATIVE OUTPUT: developing creativity and imagination in the classroom

We live in a world where visual images are becoming increasingly important as most information is presented as a combination of words and images. When we provide rich visual input, we not only help our students develop their language abilities but also their creativity.

This session will focus on the idea that a sensitive awareness of the characteristics and potential of the media and materials available to the teacher can lead to ideas which are fresh, relevant and efficient. Therefore, I will present a number of activities and ideas intended for adolescents and adults which aim at developing their creativity through exposure to different stimuli.

DEVELOPING WRITING SKILLS AT B1 AND B2 LEVEL.

The aim of this session is to develop and improve students' writing skills between the beginning of B1 to the end of B2 level.

To achieve this aim, we will look at activities which build from simple sentence construction to complete texts at B2 level. Through exercises, we will help students be aware of the four writing skill elements: content, communication, organization and language, how they interlink to create the appropriate writing text for any given situation and to focus on the effect that their writing has on the reader.

La nueva dirección es 1-2 Bear Gardens, Southwark, Londres, SE1 9ED
